European Major Superiors meet in Poland

The keynote is expected share biblical and theological reflections on the theme of hope as a mission for Religious Life in the European context.

The 14th general assembly of Major Superiors in European nations will take place in the second week of February in Czestochowa, Poland.

The Feb. 8-14 assembly of Union of European Conferences of Major Superiors (UECMS) will have delegates of 37 conferences of Religious in 25 European countries.

The delegates represent some 400,000 religious men and women in these nations.

The biennial general assembly takes place alternatively in a country of Western Europe and Eastern or Central Europe.

The meeting will discuss the theme, “Religious Life in Europe: stories of hope, hope for history.” Father José Cristo Rey García Paredes, a Spanish Claretian priest will deliver the keynote.

The keynote is expected to share biblical and theological reflections on the theme of hope as a mission for Religious Life in the European context.

The UECMS was initiated in 1980 when a first general assembly of several presidents and general secretaries of the National Conferences of Western Europe was held in Paris. In that meeting all agreed to have European Union of major superiors and have single forum for both men and women religious. In 1983 it received canonical status.
