Salesian Social Communication Department has organized the first meeting of their publishers in Europe in Barcelona.

The Feb.4-7 meeting at the Marti-Codolar house of the congregation was attended by 19 of the 20 Salesian Publishing Houses in Europe. The program was part of a series of continental meetings of Salesian Publishing Houses that the department plans to organize.

The meetings aim to evaluate Salesian presence in this area and to strengthen the identity and mission in the field of education, ministry and culture.

The department plans similar continental meetings of Salesian Publishing Houses, said a note in the European Religious superiors communication website, vidimusdominum.info.

The Barcelona meeting was led by Fathers Filiberto González Plasencia and Julian Fox from the communication department.

The meeting recalled the contributions that Salesians publishing houses have made in Europe, from Portugal to Russia, specially in the re-discovery of the Christian roots of the old continent.

The meeting also discussed the need to revise the articles in the “Salesian Social Communication System” (SSCS) with particular reference to publishers.

The meeting suggested a working group to meet shortly and to present suggestions for a more coordinated synergy and more effective activity.

The meeting also decided to make available an updated outline list of all the Salesian Publishing Houses in the world.
