Picture of the children enrolled in Nazareth Vidya Niketan Middle School. Nazarath Sister Rena Fernandes, who works for the rehabilitation of children who live with their mothers in a jail in Gaya in Bihar, recently created a milestone.
The Charity of Nazarath nun enrolled three children from the Central jail in Gaya to Nazareth Vidya Niketan Middle School, Chatra town in Jharkhand.
Sister Fernandes worked tirelessly for three months to complete the paper work to admit Jyothi Kumari, 6, Julie Kumari, 5, and Chintu Kumar, 6, to school.
The district authorities along with the jailor helped the nun to accomplish the task.
The three children were in jail for three years with their mothers, who are sentenced for life –20 years–in jail. The children now stay in hostels and attend to school.
For the past two years, the nun has been working with jailed women. She conducts tailoring classes and counseling for them. Last year, Sister Rena held a graduation ceremony for 15 women who successfully completed their one-year tailoring course.
The women of the Inner Wheel Club took the initiative to raise funds and necessary items such as boxes, uniforms, bags, etc for the children. These women also promised to finance the education of the three children for 10 years.
