Twenty nuns from ten different congregations took part in the participative June 10-17 course in Yangon.
Topics included human development awareness, leadership skills, environmental awareness, facilitation skills, public speaking, creative dramatics and creative liturgy.
“I am confident that the participants will gain skills to accompany young people in their spiritual and human development journeys,” Missionary Sister of the Columban (MSSC) Sister Ashwena, main resource person for the event, told ucanews.com.
“We need more skills and knowledge to work with today’s modernized youth,” Reparation Sister Anastasia, who works with young people from the Taungnu diocese, added.
Young people have sometimes gone astray because “no one led them,” another sister found.
“If we give them good guidance they will surely improve both spiritually and physically,” Sister Martina, a local Sister of Charity, said.
“Some youth don’t respect others,” Sister Martina continued. “But we need to control our anger and persuade them to do better in the future.”
More training is still required, according to another experienced youth minister.
Our Lady of the Missions (R.N.D.M.) Sister Christine May said that, although she has been working with young people in Pyay diocese for 9 years, she still needs to learn more about providing systematic training.
Meanwhile, Sister Ashwena says that she has confidence that the participants now have the capacity to train young people as future leaders of the Church.
