Ursulines redefine identity, mission
Ursuline nuns working in India have “redefined” their mission during their May 1-17 twelfth general chapter in Mangalore.
Sisters of Ursuline congregation Ursuline nuns working in India have “redefined” their mission to help them become a “prophetic” voice in transforming the nation.
The nuns during their May 1-17 twelfth general chapter in Somarpann Generalate, Mangalore deliberated on the areas where the sisters need to have special attention.
The chapter, attended by 39 representatives from different parts of the country, discussed about the community life and formation.
The discussions revolved around the theme: “Towards Redefining the Identity, Lifestyle and Mission of the Ursuline Franciscan Sisters in the Context of Today”.
The theme was chosen to express the mind of the congregation to protect the patrimony of the institute and renewal of spirit in the light of the Gospel, an official said.
The Ursuline Franciscan Congregation was founded by Jesuit Father Urban Stein in 1887 and the Foundation House was St. Ursula’s Convent, Bolar, Mangalore.
The concluding Eucharistic Celebration was offered in the Foundation Room where the First Superior Mother Nympha Fernandez and the pioneers shared their faith experience and were inspired by St Angela Merici to live solely ‘For the love of God’.
At the end of General chapter Sister Doreen D’Souza was re-elected as the Superior General, Sister Susheela Sequeira as Assistant Superior General and Sisters Lilly Fernandes, Jeraldine D’ Souza and Alice Noronha were elected as Councillors General.
