During the group discussion the young Religious came up ideas to be relevant in the emerging India, which is fast changing technologically and socially.

Young Religious in Karnataka made a pledge to promote “integrity and harmony” with the environment, stressing their responsibility to protect the nature.

The pledge came at the end of special gathering, which Conference of Religious India planned to prepare young Religious to meet the challenges posed by India’s developments.

“Consecrated life 2020: A visioning study by Young Religious of Karnataka” was the theme of the July 8-11 program that 58 participants from 32 provinces of various congregations attended.

Having been challenged to live a life of consecration in 2020, they pledged “to foster integrity and harmony with the cosmic, human and the divine dimensions of our life.”

Taking Jesus Christ as model, they committed themselves “to fulfilling the mission of Christ by bringing about reconciliation with God, human beings and creation.”

“We accept the responsibility to conserve nature in and through our apostolate and strive hard to build a home where all can live in peace and harmony,” they read from a written pledge.

Carmelite Father Archibald Gonsalves, president of the state unit, spoke of the challenges of the consecrated life in the modern world.

During the group discussion the young Religious came up with ideas to be relevant in the emerging India, which is fast changing technologically and socially.

Participants noted that social values of family and marriage are changing, helping many people challenge the meaning and relevance of “consecrated life.”

They noted that unless they become involved in issues that affect modern life and positively contribute towards it, the Religious life would have no meaning.
