Udaipur mission challenges Religious
The Religious of Udaipur unit of CRI met to share their concerns and challenges
Udaipur CRI unit meet on Aug. 10. The Religious of Udaipur have sought ways to follow their call radically in the difficult situations of their mission in Rajasthan at a recent meeting.
About 60 Religious leaders of Udaipur local unit of Conference of Religious India met in St.Teresa Vidya Deep Convent on Aug. 10 to share their concerns and challenges of the mission situation in this area under the leadership of Father Norbert, their new president.
With smaller number of religious being present compared to such meets in other parts of India, the regular interaction among the members gained significance.
Father Sebastian Puthuparambil guided the group to reflect on issues that affect consecrated commitment. He conducted an interactive session, looking into the socio-religious situation of the region.
Rajasthan has a low presence of Religious men and women with only five Major Superiors based in the State. The total number of religious also is the lowest in comparison to the population.
“These may have something to say about our missionary responses across the country,” said Brother Mani Mekkunnel, the CRI National Secretary.
The catholic missionary initiatives in northern part of the country have been slow and Rajasthan is yet to see the movements of religious congregations.
However, “things are changing with more religious getting challenged with missions to such difficult and otherwise forgotten areas. There are two congregations of women founded in Rajasthan and have developed with many members,” Brother said.
He expressed hope that “vibrant CRI units and their active involvement in the society will awaken more congregations to open missions in such areas, where the Church is thinly present.”
The Church has only three Catholic dioceses in Rajasthan and the impact of the Church is limited to isolated institutions and a few mission centers.
