50 and going great – a Bambina initiative
The Province of Hyderabad with a difference.
A success story of missionary initiative that laid the foundation for many other expansions to other parts of the country.
The sisters of Charity of Saints Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the province of Secunderabad on 5th February 2012. This event marked another mile stone in the History of the province.
In 1962 the province was bifurcated from the province of Mangalore with 150 sisters and 15 communities in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Dharward of Karnataka.
With the Grace of God and able administration the province began to grow and expand itself in varied apostolates that in 1998 the province was further divided into the provinces of Dharward and Secuderabad.
Among the leaders who made things happen is late Sr. Mary Ann who made a paradigm change as the Provincial of otherwise traditional group of religious. Her clarity of thought, courage of conviction and futuristic leadership gave definitive direction to the Province.
At present the province comprises of 230 perpetually professed sisters and 30 juniors spread out in 30 communities and 2 offshoots.
Fired by the passionate love of Jesus for humankind we reach out to the poor and most needy through value based education, health services, upliftment of women through many welfare projects.
5 February 2012 was a day of great joy as we gathered together to raise our hearts in gratitude to God for the marvelous blessings he has bestowed on our province in the past years.
The day began with the arrival of the sisters from different communities at St. Francis convent Secuderabad our first community in Secunderabad where sisters came to start their mission at the request of Bishop Vismara.
It was a feast to the eyes to see sisters bubbling with joy, greeting one another. The golden bells began to chime with the vibrations of joy that spread in and around the premises. Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Fr. Louis (VG). Homily………/
The fellowship session awakened in us the zeal, enthusiasm and encouragement to journey together along the paths of Holiness through the fulfillment of our mission in the future.
The day came to close with the message of the provincial Superior Sr. Philomena Thomas urging us to give wings to our love to reach beyond boundaries and help the most needy.
