A celebration of life with senior religious

An appreciation of their presence and service in the Church.

The Jabalpur Local CRI Executive organized a special get together for the senior Priests and Religious 60 plus on Sunday 22nd January at St. Thomas School from 3.30-5.45 p.m.

It had for its aim to recognize the presence of the senior Priests and Religious in the diocese; to congratulate them for the vocational journey; to thank them for their life and work accomplished for the Church and their Congregation and to spend some time in prayer and fellowship over a hot cup of tea and snacks which was very much appreciated on that cold winter Sunday.

Fr. Mathai sdb CRI secretary welcomed the participants who were numbered 25 and each was given a beautiful red rose, a sign of love and appreciation. The presence of Bishop Gerald Almeida and Bishop emeritus Theophane Opraem and senior most Sr. Aquinas aged 90 from St. Joseph’s Convent was most encouraging. A few Priests could not come due to other engagements

Fr. Jose George of Khandwa Diocese currently staying at the Cathedral Parish gave an inspiring talk on growing old gracefully, accepting life’s situations and leaving behind a beautiful legacy to posterity for edification and imitation. Fr. Sunil Kanulna Opraem made them feel young with a round of housie.

The hot tea and snacks served by Sr. Betty sjc and Sr. Grace Jean sjc took away any type of boredom. The seniors were led into prayerful moments by Sr. Gertrude and Fr. Ranjit to thank God for the years gone by and to look ahead with courage and hope.

In a short reflection Bishop Gerald said that the seniors are on the other side of life’s journey, and this get together is both a reminder and a source of hope

The programme was fittingly brought to a close by the CRI President presenting to each one of the Seniors, a memento – with the emblem of a ship in its voyage and the cross illumining the sky with the inspiring words- Moving forward in hope with Jesus.

From the relaxed and smiling faces of the seniors, we could sense that they were taken by surprise and happy at this warm and loving gesture of the CRI.
