The meeting mostly celebrated the memories of the World Youth Day

Some 180 young Religious of Andhra Pradesh spent October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, reliving the buzz generated by the recent World Youth Day in Madrid.

The energy and enthusiasm of the global youth meet witnessed mostly through the internet, television and other social networking was so contagious that it has altered the world’s consciousness, said Salesian Father K.T. Jose, rector of Kondadaba Seminary of Vishakapatnam.

He was addressing the annual meet of young Religious of Andhra Pradesh held at Nirmala High School, Vijayawada. The meeting mostly celebrated the memories of the World Youth Day.

None of the young Religious had attended the August 16-21 Madrid program. However, most had witnessed it through the media.

The program started with a prayer service based on the WYD Madrid Pauline theme: “Planted and rooted in Christ firm in the faith.” A youth carried a potted plant to the dais while the song was sung.

The participants viewed a few video clippings of the WYD and received a few handouts to reflect on this international event and pray for the Church in the world.

Father Jose said the WYD theme song called young people to discover anew the love of Jesus in their lives and count the blessings they have received through the Church.

The priest noted that the world was ready to accept the message from the WYD event and the Religious work for new evangelization after being rooted in Christ.

Father Jose called WYD a school of formation for lovers of Jesus. The priest urged young people to love Jesus passionately and become compassionate to people around them.

Jesuit Father Stanley, who attended the program, said the WYD offered the best of the Catholic Church to young people and to the world. According to him, the WYD experience was a “thorough catechesis” of young people.

Other items of the day included discussions, action songs, and PowerPoint presentations that helped the participants mix with each other and establish friendship.
